An Open Letter
Dear Annoying Magazine Salesman Person, I am not going to buy your over-priced magazines. Neither is anyone else in this apartment complex as everyone else here is either an NCSU student that can't read anyway or a senior citizen that has been reading the same three magazines since shortly after the printing press was invented and already has a subscription for the next decade because their kids don't know what else to get them for Christmas. If you do get that scholarship, please don't go into marketing demographics, as you have already proven yourself not good at it. Having the non-magazine option be African Heritage Christian Children's Books in an apartment complex that is 90+% white people with no kids who are either agnostic, atheist, or pagan is not a good marketing move. Yes, I am Christian and yes, I do indeed in my family line have some small amount of African ancestry, among other things. If you find a Christian Children's Celebrate Your African, Native American, East Indian, and Jewish Heritage Whilst Also Celebrating the Fact that the Remaining 99.9% of Your Ancestry Consists of English Peasant Stock as is Obvious from the Fact that They Have Yet to Make a Foundation Light Enough for You and Your Urge to Throw Rotten Turnips at People Wearing Armor while Quoting Monty Python and Drinking Tea I will totally pay $19.95 + s&h for it. Also, as you may have noted, I am no longer answering the door. I know its you. Please just go away. Thanks, Me Current Mood: grumpy |

WAAAAAAA!!!!
Today after church a...ahem...fellow choir member actually accused me of stealing her robe. I have heard jokes about this before but I have to say this is a first for it actually happening. I pointed out that the robe I had stolen was cougheno's and I had taken his nametag off right before I put it on. She didn't believe me and said that her robe looked exactly like the one I was wearing, so I reached around and handed her a robe that looked exactly like the one I was wearing that was hanging right in front of me. She snatched it out of my hands, carefully brushed it off, hid it away, then left without saying a word. This same person tore me apart after choir practice right in front of the director but didn't even know the correct terminology for anything she was complaining about. Methinks soon someone is going to need a reality check. Current Mood: sick |

Abernathy Update
Apparently, Abernathy is Catholic! When I am up early enough I will usually watch Mass on EWTN at 8 a.m. Yesterday when I did I noticed that Abernathy was absolutely entranced. When I got up this morning he was swimming back and forth waiting for it to come on. Now he is tucked up in his barrel watching it. Unfortunately he was quite traumatized yesterday when Timmy moved the flowers further away. Timmy got...ahem...Abernathy some very pretty pink lillies along the with absolutely stunning carnations. Unfortunately lillies kind of explode when they are tired of being flowers and send little bits everywhere, so Timmy moved the flowers onto a nearby kid's chair so the petals wouldn't fall into Abernathy's bowl. However, Timmy had to move the chair closer because Abernathy completely freaked out and started madly flapping his little fins while staring at the flowers. He only calmed down when Timmy moved the chair closer. Poor thing...it must be hard being such a spoiled rotten little fishy ;) Current Mood: cheerful |

Flowers for Abernathy
Timmy went to the grocery store tonight to pick up some basic foodstuffs for the rugrats we are watching tomorrow. He surprised me when he came home with a whole bouquet of flowers for...um...Abernathy ;) Poor thing was so sad, just forlornly sitting at the bottom of his bowl while I was looking at the flowers, thinking they were for me and he wasn't getting any (he so loves flowers!!!) but when I held them near his bowl and told him all about how Timmy had gotten them for him he cheered up and starting swimming around quite happily. Timmy then kindly put the flowers in a vase and put them by Abernathy's bowl. He is now swimming around so happily, so excited that he got flowers for Valentine's Day :) Current Mood: in pain |

Ok, I am giving Facebook one more try. As annoying as it is it does seem to be a faster way to get updates on people than lj. I'll give it a week and see how it goes. Current Mood: uncertain |

Valentine's Day
This is just a reminder: anyone who would like a babysitter for Valentine's afternoon/evening is welcome to drop their child(ren) off at our place. I am past being both a plague-bearer and also randomly falling over, so I am childsafe :) Just let us know to expect them so we know how many to plan food and activities for. :) Current Mood: awake |

Yay!!! I was practicing harp tonight and decided to try out something from the book of Chinese and Japanese music that I have. When I first got it the music in it was way way too hard for me to even attempt it, but this time I actually did pretty decent just sight-reading one of them. I am proud of myself :) ...I can also play Swing Low Sweet Chariot on keyboard...look at my mad skills ;) Its kinda embarrassing to learn a new instrument in some ways because it is very humbling to sit there and struggle through something that you could play so much easier on something else. Still, if I want to learn to play keyboard then that is what I have to do. Also, considering I want to start learning other instruments, I'd better get used to the feeling :) Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: Metroid Prime |

Something random and cool I found recently: http://wists.com/ It lets you make a wishlist from all different sites in one place. So far I am finding it quite cool. It is definitely letting me get rid of a ton of bookmarks to specific items. Current Mood: soreCurrent Music: some science show |

Rubbing Salt into an Open Wound
I am proud of myself. I practiced harp, keyboard, and voice today. I definitely need to play my harp more regularly though. This was the most I have played in ages and I got a blister, the broke open said blister...then a couple of hours later decided to eat some nice salty peanuts. Ouch! Today's (rather boring) Adventures!
This morning I got up earlier than I have in quite awhile (which shows that I really should start getting up earlier) to go see my GP as advised by the ER doctor. She gave me much better pain meds that the ER did. I also found out that if you wear really heavy knee boots they don't bother to weigh you!!! :D We then ran an errand to transfer money from the unemployment debit card to the checking account at our bank (woo, fun) and stopped by a Chinese place that was suggested by a couple of friends. The food was decent although they had fewer vegetarian items than our usual place, but there was the added entertainment of the host and the sushi chef having a screaming match behind the sushi bar. I am not sure whether the host was brave or stupid going head to head with a guy trained in the use of very sharp objects in his own territory. I found it a bit uncomfortable and intimidating at the time, but it is quite amusing now. Then since this is my first day actually out and doing stuff in a while we went by Crabtree. We were in Hallmark when my brother called Timmy to tell him I had lost my cellphone. We both looked confused and I looked in my purse and sure enough it wasn't in there. Apparently I had left my phone at the Christmas store when I took it out to dig out a couple of bucks and put the phone on the counter to find exact change. The very nice lady running the register called my parents (the only really identifiable number in my list) and my brother called me. What is even more amusing is we kind of know the lady in question, as she is the friend of a friend and we have talked to her before. Timmy got himself some nice tea as a bit of a treat and I got some kind of weird Jello-like blackberry scented soap thing at Lush. Timmy stuck it in the fridge just like jello for some unknown reason. After that was Target to pick up pain pills and a couple of new epipens since mine expired last month. I am in a much better mood today but was quite tired by the time we got home and have spent the past couple of hours on the laptop with a nice glass of Timmy's new tea. Current Mood: tired |

HI!!!
Ok, after some thought and discussion, I have decided that you guys are unfortunately not quite rid of me yet. I have to at least joyfully announce that we only have three payments left on our car! (woo!) Now if only Timmy will get a good call back from the place he interviewed with Thursday...we could so use him having an actual job (and something to do other than compulsively playing Fallout 3 alternating with bugging me for the computer so he can play Fallout 3). |

Today's episode is brought to you by the letters E and R
So those of you who have been following my rather whiny journal (and facebook) will know that I have had a very severe headache for the past couple of weeks after falling and hitting my head on the nice steel futon arm. Today my nurse advocate from United Healthcare called and I filled her in on the headache and such, and she talked me into going to the ER. It was very good I actually went, as the headache has been getting steadily worse and worse and shortly after I actually got to the hospital it got so bad that I could barely move and was so groggy I couldn't do much but just lay there. Shortly after I got into a bed I could no longer move from the neck down. After a series of tests they found out that I have what is called "Post-Concussion Syndrome" which can cause grogginess, dizziness, inability to concentrate, and the worst headache you will ever have...and it lasts for up to six weeks (oh joy!). They gave me a shot of the kind of narcoticy goodness you can only get in a hospital and after awhile I got back from La La Land and could actually move again! They eventually sent me home with a prescription for some lovely painkillers and a demand that I see my doctor for a follow-up ASAP and find a new neurologist as soon as possible. I got to see a couple of people whom I can only consider old friends at this point since I have seen them enough (I should really spend less time in the ER). So I am now just back to my usual sinus headache, tension headache, and migraine and feel vaguely human. Maybe I can actually sleep tonight. Current Mood: drainedCurrent Music: Top Gear |

Danger Will Robinson!
I have been an extremely irritable little booger today. Some people got hit in the crossfire, some managed not too. Unfortunately there is only so much bad news (a couple of friends whose diseases have gone terminal, several messy divorces, my brother having the option of slowly progressing nerve damage and liver failure or a quick and unfortunate death from arthritis, too many people out of work, one of them being Tim, etc) one can deal with at a time and for some reason either this extremely prolonged cold or the prolonged use of cold medicine is (are?) making my crazy pills stop working so I have anxiety attacks every night and woke up with a night terror last night. I can barely sleep because of this cold and the headache, and the headache is getting worse everyday. My complex migraines are occurring almost daily from all the stress and every one of them causes a little more brain damage (not counting whatever I get from hitting my head on things either when I fall or when the convulsions run me into things). I feel like crap physically, mentally, and emotionally. I also feel like a complete horse's rear end after today. To add insult to injury I also am now having a severe allergic reaction to my medical alert bracelet...sigh. I really just want to pay the bill and check out of life for a while right now. |
